Fire Sprinkler Systems and Fire Protection Installation at AZMOL Industrial Warehouse
Fire Protection and Sprinkler Systems - AZMOL Industrial Warehouse Complex
Project description
Protectie SRL successfully completed a comprehensive project involving the installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of fire protection systems at the AZMOL Industrial warehouse complex in the Republic of Moldova.
A key feature of this facility is its warehouse height exceeding 16 meters, which presents specific challenges for automatic fire suppression, early fire detection, and smoke extraction.
The project included the installation of automatic water-based fire sprinkler systems with sprinkler heads positioned both at ceiling level and within storage racks, wet pipe sprinkler control valve assemblies, automatic fire detection and alarm systems with smoke detectors, audible fire warning systems, and automated smoke extraction controls.
The installed fire protection infrastructure is designed to protect storage areas, help control and limit the spread of fires, reduce potential damage to stored goods and equipment, and support safe evacuation of warehouse personnel.
Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems for High-Bay Warehouses
One of the main stages of the project was the installation of an automatic water-based fire sprinkler system designed to protect a high-bay warehouse with a ceiling height exceeding 16 meters.
To provide fire protection across the storage facility, sprinkler heads were installed at two levels:
-
Ceiling-Level Sprinklers – Installed beneath the warehouse roof to protect the upper areas of the storage facility.
-
In-Rack Sprinklers – Installed within storage rack structures to deliver water closer to stored goods and help limit fire spread between different rack levels.
This configuration provides multiple levels of sprinkler protection adapted to the characteristics of high-bay storage facilities.
Ceiling-Level Fire Sprinkler System
Automatic sprinkler heads were installed beneath the warehouse ceiling to provide water discharge when their rated activation temperature is reached.
Ceiling-level sprinklers are an essential component of warehouse fire protection systems, helping control fires and limit their spread throughout the storage facility.
In-Rack Fire Sprinkler System
For additional protection of the storage areas, in-rack fire sprinkler heads were installed within the warehouse racking structures.
In high-bay warehouses, fires can spread rapidly between storage levels, while the effectiveness of water discharge exclusively from ceiling-level sprinklers may be affected by rack configuration and stored materials.
Installing sprinklers within storage racks allows water to be discharged closer to potential fire locations, improving fire protection coverage in multi-level storage environments.
Wet Pipe Sprinkler Control Valve Assemblies
The project included the installation of wet pipe sprinkler control valve assemblies for the automatic fire suppression system.
These assemblies are designed to monitor sprinkler system operation, control the water supply, and provide the necessary status and alarm signals.
In wet pipe sprinkler systems, the piping remains filled with water, allowing water to discharge through activated sprinkler heads when a fire occurs.
Control valve assemblies are essential components of automatic fire sprinkler installations, supporting reliable system operation and monitoring.
Automatic Fire Detection and Alarm System
To provide early fire detection throughout the AZMOL Industrial warehouse complex, an automatic fire detection and alarm system equipped with smoke detectors was installed.
The system is designed to detect smoke and generate alarm signals when potentially hazardous fire conditions are identified.
Early fire detection is particularly important in high-bay warehouses, where large internal volumes and extensive racking structures can influence smoke movement and accumulation.
The fire detection and alarm system forms an integral part of the facility's overall fire protection infrastructure.
Smoke Extraction System and Automated Smoke Vent Controls
The project included the installation and automation of a smoke extraction system, designed to remove smoke and hot combustion gases during a fire.
Automated control functions were implemented for the smoke extraction system, including the opening of smoke vents.
The automation system enables the execution of predefined fire safety control sequences in response to the appropriate signals.
The smoke extraction system helps to:
-
Remove smoke and combustion products from warehouse areas.
-
Improve visibility along evacuation routes.
-
Reduce smoke accumulation in protected areas.
-
Support safer evacuation of warehouse personnel.
-
Provide more favorable conditions for firefighting and emergency response operations.
For high-bay warehouse facilities, properly designed smoke extraction is an important component of the overall fire safety strategy.
Audible Fire Alarm and Warning System
An audible fire alarm notification system equipped with sirens was installed at the AZMOL Industrial warehouse complex.
The system is designed to generate audible warning signals when a fire emergency is detected.
Audible alarms help notify warehouse personnel of potential danger and support the implementation of established emergency evacuation procedures.
Testing, Commissioning and System Handover
Following installation, Protectie SRL specialists carried out equipment configuration, commissioning, and comprehensive functional testing of the installed fire protection systems.
The completed works included:
-
Configuration and verification of the automatic fire sprinkler system.
-
Functional testing of wet pipe sprinkler control valve assemblies.
-
Testing of the fire detection and alarm system.
-
Verification of smoke detector operation.
-
Configuration of automated smoke extraction controls.
-
Testing of smoke vent opening mechanisms.
-
Verification of the audible fire alarm system and sirens.
-
Integrated testing of fire protection system interactions.
-
Final inspection and handover of the installed systems for operation.
The completed project equipped the AZMOL Industrial warehouse complex with integrated fire protection systems adapted to the specific requirements of storage facilities exceeding 16 meters in height.
